Kick & Follow-up Hands
  • Purpose
    Defenders and midfielders are encouraged to run forward to the next contest after kicking. This drill teaches players to sprint after their kick to become a running handball option for players upfield.

  • Two (2) lines at each of stations (A), (B), (C) and (D). The left cone player marks, gives a return handball and stays at the station, the right cone player kicks and runs to the next station.
  • (A2) runs, steadies and kicks long to leading (B1), then sprints to the next contest to receive a return handball from (B1)
    Marking players (A1, B1, C1 and D1) stay at the same station but move to the next cone.
    Kicking players (A2, B2, C2 and D2) follow their kick, sprinting to the next station
    Some players forget to sprint after kicking and need to concentrate on this
  • (A2) handballs to second player at the station (B2), then follows behind shepherding and instructing
    (A2) joins line (B1)
  • (B2) runs, steadies and kicks long to (C1) before sprinting forward to the next contest and receiving a return handball from (C1)
  • (B2) handballs to (C2), then follows behind shepherding and instructing
    (B2) joins line (C1)
  • (C2) now takes-off towards (D1). The drill continues in this pattern around the square, with the player kicking down the line, then following-up inside.
  • After 7 minutes, change the direction to clockwise or vice-versa.
