Standing Kick
  • Purpose
    Poor kicking technique can be remedied especially at an early age. This drill teaches players to remain balanced and guide the ball onto their foot rather than drop it haphazardly from a height. without the added difficulty of running while doing so.

  • (A) stands on their non-preferred leg, with the kicking leg fractionally off the ground. Moving their kicking leg back in an arc, they kick to (B)
    Posture should be comfortably upright (not hunched) with eyes on the ball throughout the kicking motion
    The drop of the ball is crucial, one hand must guide the ball as low as possible to the foot
    Kick through the ball with the toes of the kicking foot pointing towards the target
  • (B) marks and repeats the action to (C), who completes the loop with a kick to (A)
  • This drill can be done in pairs if there are enough balls
