DRILL
Rebound with Crumb and 2-on-1
  • Purpose
The transition from attack to defense is best achieved by using the open or 'fat' side of the ground. This drill practices quick ball movement whilst incorporating stations to practice front and square positioning near goal, and decision making in a 2-on-1 contest.

  • Two competitive pairs (4 players) at station (D), two competitive threesomes (6 players) at station (J). These players will be your key forwards/defenders and stay at the same station after each turn, other players move to the next station.
  • Player (A) simulates playing-on from the kick-in with a little kick to themself, steals a few paces then kicks long to leading (B).
This kick must be out-in-front of the player so they can run onto the ball.
  • (B) marks and plays-on before steadying and kicking to leading (C)
  • (C) runs and then kicks long to a contest at station (D). The yellow player should attempt to mark, the opposition player should punch forward. Player (E) must be positioned front and square to crumb the loose ball, or run past and receive from the marking forward. (E) steadies and kicks a goal.
The kick by (C) should be to the cone, players at station (D) do NOT lead.
After competing, players at (D) swap with the second competing pair, (C) joins station (E)
Encourage the goalkicker if a goal is scored!
  • Once (E)'s kick has travelled through the goals, (F) kicks to themself, runs a few metres then kicks to leading (G), who plays-on and kicks to leading (H).
  • (H) plays on and must choose the best option to kick to at station (J), as the opposition player attempts to cut-off any pass from (H).
The opposition player should try to cover the 'easiest' or most likely kick, and the kicker must adjust if their originally intended target is covered.
The defender stops applying pressure after attempting the spoil, forwards gather the loose ball if necessary and continue
After competing, players at (J) swap with the second competing trio, (H) joins station (K)
  • The receiver at (J) plays-on and kicks to player (K) who leads from full-forward, then takes a shot. Once (K) kicks for goal, (A) restarts.
  • After a few minutes, introduce a second ball.
