DRILL
Peripheral Vision Triangles
  • Purpose
Players must learn to use their peripheral vision to evaulate where players are positioned around them, and whether they need to change directions to avoid one. This drill practices sidestepping or spinning to avoid collisions with an intersecting group, which in a game could be a player trying to tackle them.

  • Set outcones for two triangles, (A) (B) (C) and (D) (E) (F). The closer together the cones, the more evasive action required.
  • The first triangle handball from (A) to (B), (B) to (C), then (C) back to (A)
Players must use peripheral vision to sense collisions and take evasive action, whilst keeping their eyes on their ball
Receivers must give loud voice, as there are many bodies around the contest
After giving the ball. the player should follow up with a shepherding action for the recipient
  • At the same time, the second triangle handball from (D) to (E), (E) to (F), then (F) back to (D)
