Split players into two teams and distribute opposition tops if available. If there are 20+ at training, create two playing arenas containing a 3m square inside a 10m square. The attacking team of 5 players inhabit the inner square, the defending team the outer square.
Start the stopwatch. The attacking team work the ball around the inner square with hands. Defenders position themselves to block passage through their square.
Defenders cannot enter the inner square
Once an attacker spots a break in the defense, a player can make a break for it and attempt to run through the defender's zone without being touched.
If the player successfully makes it through without being tackled and caught, the attackers score 1 point.
Keep tally of the successful attempts.
Once a player makes it through or is tackled, bring the ball back into the square and continue. However if they made it successfully, the next turn is slightly different (see point 4).
If a player successfully crosses over, that side becomes out of bounds for the next attempt, so defenders only have 3 sides to defend.
After 3 minutes stop the clock and call out the total to beat. Swap the attackers and defenders. If there are not multiples of 5, rotate the players sitting out. Repeat the exercise.
