Goalkicking in Threes
  • Purpose
    Converting goal opportunities is critical and often neglected at practice. This drill simulates a set shot at goal, with a person standing the mark and a defender on the goal line.

  • Groups of 3 scattered inside the 50m arc, each with a football
  • (A) takes a set shot at goal, then follows the kick to the goalsquare
    (A) allows a comfortable distance from the person standing the mark, runs straight at the goal and kicks firmly through the ball
    (B) keeps hands up and tries to put (A) off
    (C) defends the goal by marking or spoiling
  • (C) simulates a kick-in from the goalsquare to (B), then follows their kick and stands the mark for (B)
  • (B) takes a set shot at goal from the same place as (A), then follows the kick to the goalsquare
  • Players make a final rotation, then move to another spot on the ground and repeat the process
    Kick from different distances and angles
  • You may elect to make it a contest by having players keep track of the score
