Flyers and Crumbers
  • Purpose
    This exercise gives tall marking options contested marking practice against the best defenders. Running players practice making position front and square of these players, carrying the ball and kicking accuractely to long targets.

  • 1 on 1 marking options vs defenders at stations A1, B1, C1 and D1, can have more pairs at these stations if large numbers. Other players form pairs of crumbing team-mates at stations A2, B2, C2, D2
  • Coach kicks to A1 who contest; if a mark is taken then handball to running players A2; or if a spoil is effected A2 must crumb.
    After the flyers contest, competition between them stops and the ball is left for crumbers A2
    Competing talls return to their cone
  • A2 share the ball with hands if necessary until one kicks to leading marking contest at B1; B2 receive the handball or retrieve the spoil and share the ball before delivering to leading C1
    Competing players must return to position before the next ball arrives, running players must run hard after their kick to the next contest in case of a long spoil.
  • The exercise continues in the fashion, with the 1's flying and the 2's crumbing
