  • Split into 2 teams. Fielders must stand no closer than 3m to the stumps at (A) which can you can make small for advanced teams (3 witches hats) or larger for juniors (a bin/tackle bag). Distance batters must run from (A) to (B) is about 5m (you can vary this to suit). Batting team line up behind (A). Fielders spread out evenly as per zone defence.
  • The first batter places the football on the ground/tee and soccers it within the playing field (180 degrees ahead of plane A-B), then run to cone (B) and back. If the ball is caught on the full, the batter is out!
Optionally you can use a witches hat as a 'tee' to elevate the ball.
  • Fielders must gather and handball/kick to a player capable of hitting the stumps. That player has a shot with a handball.
A kick at the stumps is also allowed, but low percentage
  • If the batter makes it back in time while the ball is still in flight, they can soccer the ball away mid-air to stop it hitting the stumps (no hands allowed).
  • If they miss the stumps or the batsman blocks it, the batsman gets a run, the keeper gathers and places the ball next to the stumps. The batsmen gets a quick breather, then repeats the kick into play to restart the next turn.
Remember to call out the score after every run.
  • When the fielders hit the stumps, the batter is out.
  • Swap the batting and fielding side after everyone has batted.
