Chew-the-clock Kicking
  • Purpose
    There are times when playing defensively to retain possession is necessary, requiring a cool head and well executed passes, as a turnover can be particularly costly during these periods. This drill works on leading and finding targets under pressure from the opposition.

  • The two teams spread out inside the 50m arc, if there is no 50m arc then use cones to mark one.
  • Team (A) start with the ball and retain possession by kicking to leading teammates, whilst Team (B) attempt to cause a turnover by spoiling or intercepting the kick
    Simulating a match, if a mark is taken, the player has a free kick
    Players must remain within the arc
    Handball is not allowed
  • The ball may hit the ground, providing a player can gather and kick without being tagged by opposition (touched only, not tackled).
  • When the ball is turned over by Team (A), the roles are reversed and Team (B) attempt to retain possession, while Team (A) try to force a turnover
